HEALTH FAIR RETURNS TO CAMPUS SEPT. 18

California University students and other members of the campus community will findA student gets her blood pressure checked at the 2012 Health Fair. “Cal U Health for Life” at the University’s 26th annual health fair, set for 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 18 on the main campus in California, Pa.

The public may attend the free educational event, which is coordinated by the Cal U Health and Wellness Education Center.

The health fair will be held in the south conference wing of the Cal U Convocation Center. More than 40 healthcare industry representatives will staff booths addressing health and wellness topics such as diabetes, smoking cessation, orthopedics and more.

Screenings for blood glucose, blood pressure, pulse oximetry and balance will be conducted, and attendees can learn their body-mass index. For a $19 fee (cash or check only), visitors can receive a flu shot administered by staff from Centerville Clinics.

Central Blood Bank will conduct a blood drive at the health fair, and a Be The Match donor registry drive will be conducted to identify potential marrow donors.

Visitors may drop in; the first 600 people to visit the health fair will receive drawstring bags. Bottled water and healthy snack packs will be distributed randomly throughout the day.  A local disc jockey will provide music in the Convocation Center courtyard, and temporary tattoo artists and caricature artists will provide entertainment during the event.
