The Office of Veterans Affairs at California University of Pennsylvania is on a mission to decorate the campus with banners honoring past and current service members who have ties to Cal U.
With the financial support of sponsors and members of the public, the Veterans Affairs Office intends to hang the commemorative banners on campus in time for Veterans Day observances. The banners will remain on display through the end of November this year, then be cleaned and stored for use in subsequent years.
Each banner will include a photo of the honoree, along with his or her hometown, branch of military service, era of service and other information.
Order a banner. Deadline for submission of all materials is Oct. 2, 2013.
Who can be honored
Each banner will honor a current student, Cal U alumnus or University employee who is either a military veteran or serving currently with the active-duty military, Reserve or National Guard.
Family members with connections to Cal U (such as a faculty member’s son or daughter, or a staff member’s parent) also are eligible, along with recipients of the Cal U President’s Patriotic Service Medallion.
Banner costs
The cost of each banner is $70.
Those submitting the name of a veteran/service member may pay the full price or enlist a sponsor to help defray the cost. A 50/50 match is suggested. The sponsor’s name will appear on the banner.
The Office of Veterans Affairs is seeking local businesses and organizations to serve as sponsors for the banner project, but offers no guarantees of sponsorship.
A photo of the honoree must be provided, along with verification of military service and a signed photo release (required for all living honorees). Banners may not be ordered as a surprise.
