“Institutionalizing Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity (URSCA)” will be the theme of a daylong discussion about undergraduate research on campus April 14.
Dr. Jeffery Osborn, an award-winning biologist, will discuss the importance of undergraduate research with the campus community at 3 p.m. April 14 in Duda Hall, Room 103.
His talk, “The Benefits of URSCA: Creating an Institutional Community of Faculty and Student Scholars” is free and open to faculty, staff and students.
Osborn also will meet with invited members of the administration and faculty at 11 a.m. to present “Building Institutional Capacity and Leadership to Support URSCA.” This session is limited to 20 participants; those interested in attending the event should contact Dr. Gregg Gould by e-mail at gould@calu.edu.
Osborn’s visit is presented by Cal U’s Center for Undergraduate Research.
About the speaker
Osborn is the dean of the School of Science and a professor of biology at The College of New Jersey, near Trenton. He has received more than $7 million in research funding for a variety of organizations, including the National Science Foundation, J. William Fulbright Foundation and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
He is a past-president of the Council on Undergraduate Research and currently serves as principal investigator for the organization’s National Science Foundation.
Osborn has received numerous awards for his research, including the Centennial Award from the Botanical Society of America, the Antarctica Service Medal of the United State of America from the National Science Foundation, and Truman State University’s highest award for recognizing outstanding faculty members.
