Talk by Olympic Coach Jack Hazen
7 p.m. Aug. 2
Blaney Theatre, Steele Hall

As part of its annual summer camp, Cal U’s cross country program hosts a free talk by Jack Hazen, who coached the USA Track and Field team’s distance runners at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The free event, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 2 in the Blaney Theatre inside Steele Hall.

About coach Jack Hazen

In addition to working with the men's distance runners for Team USA at the London Olympics, Hazen was named head manager for the 1999 Junior Pan American Track and Field team and was twice named as U.S. coach for men’s cross country at the World Championships, in Boston and Capetown, South Africa.

He was also selected as the assistant coach for the 2005 U.S. World Championship meet in Helsinki, Finland.

In 2016-2017, Hazen completed his 50th year as head coach of men’s cross country at Malone University in Canotn, Ohio, and 25th as the women’s cross country head coach.

Now an NCAA Division II member, the Pioneers men’s program still ranks as the all-time winningest program as ranked by the NAIA. Hazen’s 1972 men’s team became the first Malone team to earn an NAIA national championship, and his 1999 women’s team became the second.

In spring 2016, Hazen received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (OATCCC) for 100 total seasons of coaching service.
